Fleetwood’s Sustainable Drainage Scheme

A flagship initiative in Lancashire’s coastal resilience strategy, the Fleetwood SuDS project integrates nature-based drainage solutions with traditional flood defences. Our team overcame complex tidal challenges to deliver a system that protects 1,500+ properties while enhancing local biodiversity through saltmarsh restoration and native planting schemes.

The scheme manages surface water runoff across 85 hectares, featuring:

  • 12,000m³ attenuation basins with tidal flow controls
  • 3.5km of bioswales filtering pollutants
  • Restored intertidal habitats supporting 15+ marine species

Using real-time monitoring sensors and adaptive control systems, we’ve created a climate-resilient drainage network that automatically responds to tidal surges and rainfall intensity. The project exceeds Environment Agency standards for water quality and flood protection while achieving Biodiversity Net Gain targets through carefully engineered wetland habitats.
